Gold! This is the meaning of the arabic word Dahab. Gold, like the color of its beaches and of the surrounding desert.
This little Egyptian town, located on the south eastern coast of the Sinai peninsula 70 miles north of Sharm el Sheikh, has grown around a small fisherman village to become a florid tourist resort. However, unlike Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab still has a relaxed and laid back way of life.
The long promenade is punctuated by dozens of characteristic bars and restaurant full of carpets, puffs and low tables by the sea, where you can enjoy a mint tea or a karkade’, while reading a book and tasting excellent fresh fish.
Dahab is the best staging point for desert safaris and trips to Mount Sinai and the Saint Catherine monastery.
An old Bedouin saying goes: “He who drinks Dahab’s water sooner or later will return”. And it is probably true, as even the most experienced travelers returns at least once.
